This was a gritty, brave performance from the Belles who showed true battling qualities to gain their first point of the season.

In the swirling, biting wind we kept our first clean sheet in freezing conditions beneath the Dunstable Downs.

Kerry made her debut in goal and was a super star, despite her size she made numerous saves and kept us in the game.

We started with Tamsin and Carmen as central defenders who kept the first half safe as they held the Luton strikers at bay. Ruby and Abs played left and right backs supported by Christie in the middle. A welcome return for Sophie from injury as she took up her typically combative game on the right wing. Captain Jazz was her usual competitive self , making those great headers from Maddy's long throws. Casey supported Bethan in attack but chances were few in the first half. Bethany and Phia came on half way through and joined into the fray with great enthusiasm.

At half time we made a few changes in order to push the game, and try to grab a winner! With Tamsin and Carmen moving further upfield. Luton have always given us good games and this was no exception. Early in the season they had beaten us five nil. It was a risk trying to take the game to Luton and for once we had a slice of luck our side too. Bethany made a fantastic clearance off the goal line and Kerry made some superb saves. But what impressed me most was that every player seemed totally determined not to conceed a goal. Abs had a terrific game again and was unlucky not to score but was held off by the impressive Luton central defender. As we forced a few corners near the end there was a chance that we may have even grabbed a winner but Carmen's effort was well saved.

So about halfway through our league season and I feel we may have turned a corner. We are now becoming tighter in defence and giving it more commitment and belief. There are no easy games in this league and we will have to continue to battle on.

player of the match; a true fantastic team performance from every player
