This was a highly entertaining and high scoring game with our local rivals. It was a poor start from the Belles arriving just minutes before kick off there was no time to prepare and Stevenage took full advantage with an early goal. We struggled to get a foothold in the game and Stevenage pressed their advantage with another goal from long range and follow up. When we gained possession there was little support play and chances were few and far between. Jas and Casey were working hard in midfield but not getting the breaks. Another two goals from Boro and it was looking grim and worse was to follow as Helen fell and broke her wrist, we all wish her a speedy recovery.

At half time we needed to make some changes, and started with the objective of winning this half of the game. Bethan came into defence and Carmen went into midfield Tamsin went to her familiar role as striker. Ruby took over in goal. Kicking down the slope we were much more impressive and there was some nice passing movement across the pitch. Carmen was making a big impact and scored by rounding the keeper this was followed shortly by another from a through ball from Beth and suddenly anything looked possible. However Boro pulled one back by lobbing Ruby, who was making some brave saves. Tamsin came back to help out in defence and allowed Bethan to move upfield where she took on 2 defenders and smashed the ball into the net. Boro fought back and scored when capitalising on a poor clearance. Then Carmen completed her hatrick with neat interchange with Abs. Kerry and Christie were making great tackles and Maddy was covering every inch of grass and taking most throws, Bethany made some great runs and interceptions and it was feeling back like the team. Despite the loss it was good to finish so strong and I hope we can carry this onto our next match.
