This was truly a game of two halves.

The first half started badly, with Belmont scoring within a couple of minutes; the Belles caught half-asleep allowed a Belmont player to run at them from the half-way line, never troubling her with a real challenge, ending with a powerful shot at goal that Bethany never had a chance of stopping.

After the poor start the Belles really stepped up their game for the rest of the first half, defending well and looking dangerous on the break. But the score remained unchanged at half time, and it looked like there was still everything to play for.

Something changed after half-time though, and fairly quickly after the restart Belmont grabbed a couple of quick goals. After that it seemed that the Belles pretty much crumbled away. The goals kept coming, but never at the end of the pitch that we were all hoping for!

At the end a score of 7-0 to Belmont makes it sound as though the Belles were completely outclassed. In fact it was clear from the first half performance that they can compete, but on this occassion they simply couldn't keep up the same level of play for the whole match.

It was a disappointing performance from the Belles - there can be no excuses about the wickedly cold conditions, as they applied equally to both teams. The focus must be on concentrating from the first minute right up to the end of every match, and not to concede silly goals, which then have the effect of dousing the fighting spirit which the Belles need to compete in this league.
