Hitchin Hearts Belles 3 v 3 Bury Rangers

00753 hits since October 25, 2009

A grey, wet but mild morning played host to one of the most exciting U10 games seen at Chambers Lane on Saturday as Hitchin, currently unbeaten at the top of the league entertained Bury Rangers , also unbeaten, in an HGFPL game that will be hard to beat for quality football and entertainment.

Bury won the toss and elected to kick off and right from the start laid out their stall with their intention to attack. The Belles defence of Meg and Ciara coped well with the first few sorties in to the Hitchin half and with Sasa and Nicole in midfield the Bury attack didnít look like scoring though they did enjoy most of the early possession. All this was to change in the 12th minute when Bury did score, after good work down the middle of the pitch, opened up the Hitchin defence and the Belles conceded their first goal of the season. Hitchin kept their heads up and tried to attack, but their only real chance of the first half was a speculative 20 yard shot from Sasa that went narrowly high and wide.

Half time: 0-1

The coaches asked at half time that the players raise their game 10%, and this they duly did, and 3 minutes after the re-start Emily found the back of the net for the equaliser after a magnificent run up the left wing which left the Bury defence chasing shadows. 4 minutes later and the Belles took the lead for the first time in the game when Sadie hit a trademark, unstoppable left foot shot 20 yards out on the left wing, another contender for goal of the season! Unfortunately the lead was only to last for 3 minutes as Bury managed to equalise with yet another well worked goal. 5 minutes later , Bury took the lead yet again, when a long ball down the middle of the park, split wide the Hitchin defence and the Bury striker easily beat the Hitchin keeper for what looked like the winning goal. Bury never banked on the never say die attitude of the U10s and this shone through and saved the day 2 minutes from time when Sadie, this time running up the right, put in yet another unstoppable shot which the Bury goal keeper could only watch as it sailed in to the back of the net.

The referee blew up for full time with the score at 3-3 and all present couldnít argue that the score wasnít the right result, neither could they argue that they hadnít had a mornings great entertainment. The leagues top two teams had provided a feast of great football, Bury with their intelligent ,passing football and the Belles with their proud, heads up high , never say die attitude. Several first time spectators couldnít believe what a spectacle that these two U10s girls teams had served up, but those who have been party to the Belles games over the last couple of seasons, know that this is usually the norm.
