Garston 0 v 6 Hitchin Hearts Belles

00801 hits since February 7, 2010

Every coaches nightmare is the Saturday morning phone call that their leading scorer cannot make the game. Fortunately the Belles U10s have such strength in depth that they responded magnificently with a highly entertaining 6-0 win at Garston, when that exact scenario presented itself. Sadie having to pull out with illness ( get well soon!) gave the other girls a chance to step up to the plate and make a name for themselves..and boy did they do that!!

This was the first league meeting between the two teams this season, although they did meet in a friendly back in October. Emily was captain this morning after her glittering performance in the win against Bedwell a couple of weeks ago. Garston had ko and the early minutes were quite evenly balanced as the teams sounded each other out. A glimpse of what was to come, came as early as the 3rd minute when Nicole, who was standing in for Sadie, had a chance to grab her first league goal but, unfortunately, she put wide of the goal. Kinnari then had a chance, as did Sasa , but both managed to shoot tamely at the goalkeeper. Emily was causing major problems along the wings for the Garston defence and in the 10th minute a pass after one of her super runs found Kinnari who then picked out Sasa unmarked in the area for her to fire her first of the match. Straight from the kick off the Belles went back on the attack and a superb passing attack featuring Sasa, Nicole, Emily and Kinnari, just failed to bring a just reward. However, in the 13th minute, again after a weaving run down the wing, Emily brilliantly fed Nicole, who made no mistake this time, scoring her first league goal of the season. Garston were finding it difficult to get out of their own half and the couple of times they did manage it from long kicks from their keeper, Meg and Jess swept up magnificently to keep Tanya safe in goal. Kinnari then scored for the third game on the trot, when she converted another pass from Emily who had latched on to Sasas quick, long throw in.3-0. A minute later it was 4, as Kinnari put away her second, this time Sasa provided the pass, after a sweeping move from the Belles defence when Meg and Jess broke up a rare Garston attack. And it could have been even more at half time as Nicole, not realising how much time she had on the ball put wide, Sasa taking one touch too many and both Kinnari and Emily shooting straight at the keeper .

Half time: 0-3

There wasn’t much to say at half time except “Keep it up, girls”, after a spectacular display of football had put the girls deservedly 4 goals up at the break. They weren’t to disappoint either, as 3 minutes in to the second half Sasa smashed the ball in to the roof of the Garston net after another of her solo runs, to score her second and the Belles fifth. And they still hadn’t finished as great passing and off the ball movement tore open Garston time and time again, with only the keeper keeping the score in single figures. Jess in particular going so close on 3 occasions, to scoring her first goal of the season. All credit to Garston they kept plugging away and were nearly rewarded with a goal after a long range effort hit the post. This was to be their only shot on target. Meg, having played solidly at the back made way to allow Tanya to come out of goal and have a few minutes on pitch, with Nicole volunteering to take over between the sticks. The Belles continued to press forward and their passing play was a delight to behold with every single player getting involved. Ursula went close after a good through ball from Ciara put Emily out wide again, Sasa and Kinnari both hit the keeper again before Sasa wrapped up the Belles victory with their 6th and her third of the game, this time hooking the ball high in to the net after a goalmouth scramble.

Every week the girls performances seem to get better and stronger and even in a season of excellent games these young girls today produced one of the most exquisite performances of football that anyone could ever hope to witness at this age level.

Team: Tanya, Meg (The Wall), Jess, Nic-goal, Ciara, Ursula, Kinnari, Sasa, Emily.

Player of the Game: Tough again, but this week , Sasa, not just for her first ever hat-trick but for her clever passing and movement off the ball.
