Borehamwood 1 v 3 Hitchin Hearts Belles

When we arrived at the ground everyone including the manager and the coach looked nervous because this was such an important game against a very good team.

Our coach Rob was not able to be there, neither was Emily or Ursula , so we wanted to win the match for them.

When we warmed up the pitch was very icy and frosty so we didn’t know if we would be playing but the sun came out and melted the ice so the game was on!

First Half

Borehamwood won the toss and made us change ends so they could kick down-hill in the second half as they must have thought we would be tired by then.

Jess and Meg were very strong in defence when the opposition came forward and the midfield 3 of Kinari, Nicole and Sasa worked hard to cover attack and defence.

Sadie had a few great shots but their excellent goalkeeper saved them which made us think that getting to the final would be tougher than we thought.

With 11 minutes gone Sadie got the ball on the half way line and turned past a defender to fire a fantastic shot which stung the goalies hands, surely she wouldn’t save it, the ball bounced around near the goal and we waited to see who would get to it first, Sadie leapt to the ball to knocked it though the crowded goal to put the Belles 1-0 up.

Noticing that the BW players heads had dropped we pushed forward for the second goal. Kinaari received a pass from Jess and turned quickly and with a flick of the outside of her foot she found Sadie in space on the left wing who ran forward into the box and blasted the ball into the net – 2-0 to the Belles and it was half time.

Second Half

With only 20 minutes until our first ever Cup Final, everyone knew they had to play the game of their lives.

Borehamwood knew they had to go for it and put us under a lot of pressure with Jess and Meg finding it difficult to clear the ball out of their half which gave Borehamwood more possession and the Belles were happy to give away a few corners.

With 29 minutes gone and the Belles defending another corner there was a bit of confusion between Meg and Tania and the striker nipped in and scored to make it 2-1 with 11 minutes to go.

Sadie came back to help clear the ball from defence which worked well because Nicole ran on to a long pass and ran down the wing, crossing it for Kinnari who was just about to shoot when the defender sliced it into her own net.

When the final whistle blew the Belles were delighted knowing that we had reached our first final and we had all worked hard to get there.

Well done everyone, you fought really hard now let’s win the final and lift the cup!!!!!!
