Welwyn Pegasus 0 v 10 Hitchin Hearts Belles

After a fantastic outing at Kings Langley a week earlier where the Belles won 6-2, the fruits of their efforts really started to flourish and the passing game they had always enjoyed had been topped off with another feast of goals.

This young rookie team has developed a fantastic playing style throughout the season that has not always given them the result they often deserved, so the coaches set about fine tuning things at training to help them receive the ball with more positional awareness and it was executed by the players in emphatic style on this dreary May weekend.

With Chloe back between the sticks fresh from her impressive outfield performance last week, the Belles knew they were in safe hands. With Cleo out, Rosie provided the steel at the back and began the moves with some impressive passing into the wide midfield areas.

Using the width of the pitch much more, the Belles found themselves with acres of space and attacked with purpose coming close on a number of occasions before the flood gates opened.

The blueprint was set, regardless of which Belles team lined up, they played out from defence to midfield and slipped perfectly timed passes in for their team mates to calmly slot home.

Nemo, playing only her second U9 game must have thought it was Christmas as she was the beneficiary of some lovely Tashai and Zhane passes and opened her Belles account not just once but 4 times!

Courtney racked up yet another hat trick with a steely determination in front of goal and Tashai and Rosie both popped up to get in on the act.

The goal of the game (and for me the season) came when the defensively mature Rosie, moved forward from defence menacingly and found herself one on one with the Welwyn defender, with two fantastic supporting runs in the shape of Katie to her left and Courtney to her right. Rosie picked a time-perfect-pass into the path of the speedy Katie who’s first touch gave her the luxury of picking her target and coolly dispatched.

Welwyn fought hard to respond and their impressive No.14 went on some forward runs that tested the Belles defensive resolve and once possession was regained, calmly went about their patient build up game.

With the game entering the last quarter and the Belles comfortably ahead, this was a fantastic opportunity to tinker with the line up and develop the girl’s awareness of different positions on the pitch. Chloe provided energy to the team on the pitch that broke up any Welwyn attack and came close herself to scoring as did Gemma.

Team: Chloe, Tashai, Rosie, Gemma, Katie, Zhane, Nemo, Courtney.

Player of the Game: Football is a team game and today everything gelled, so with some great goals and some great build up play – this week it goes to the whole team!
