Barnet Azzuri  1 v 5  Hitchin Town Belles U12

Hertfordshire FA Girls U12 Challenge Cup - First Round

Players: Beth, Amy, Emily, Christie, Ruby, Maddy, Carmen, Tamsin, Sophie, Chloe.

Just 10 girls for this cup match on a fine sunny day. We played with 3 at the back who coped with the Barnet attackers. Amy, captain off the day sweeping up majestically and Christie putting in some biting tackles, Emily was magnificent some times acting as a sweeper and attacking late into the game, as the smallest player she was amusingly marking the biggest player!. Beth barely touched the ball in goal. We dominated but again were unable to convert a host of chances. Maddy was working really hard taking every throw and Ruby came into midfield and pushed into attack. Chloe and Soph put in crosses but the final touch was missing for both Tamsin and Carmen. After about 20 minutes Tamsin finally finished coolly and the half finished.

Pressure on the Barnet goal

Belles attack again

I think everyone was a bit disappointed that we hadn't taken more advantage and we made some changes. Christie going into goal and Ruby into defence. Carmen came back into midfield and Beth came up front. This worked straight away with Carmen scoring from the edge of the box. Then against the general run of play a Barnet striker volleyed a high shot which bounced right over Christie and in, 2-1. This only seemed to spur the Belles on and Beth with her back to the goal turned to smash home her first for the season, a great goal. Carmen then got her second after some substained pressure. And finally Tamsin chasing a long through ball from Chloe scored a fantastic fifth for the Belles. Barnet Azzuri made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed some drink and cakes in the clubhouse afterwards.
