Match Summary

Football as they say is a game of 2 halves and today’s match was very much like that. A slow start and a first nervous half from Hitchin who after the enforced Easter lay off started slowly but after half time really turned the screws on Bushey to hit 3 goals in quick succession. Overall a sporting match played in good spirit by both sides and Hitchin must be the politest side in the league.

The bright sunshine and unseasonably warm weather bought out a large number of spectators and a mini cruft show of dogs.

Stand in manager Dave restricted in his use of substitutes by only having ten players played a blinder tactically consulting with the team on their preferred positions.

A big well done to the parents that turned up early to set the goals up and marvel at how Paul does this on his own but a bigger well done to the team despite missing several key players really played well to notch up another win in the league against a Bushey side that never stopped trying.

First Half

Bushey piled the pressure on from the start forcing a number of corners, Elise and Monica had their work cut out on the right and Natalie and Jo covered the left in defence. Stephanie working hard in midfield had an early shot on goal before the Sammy Sian duo act stepped in to set up some good chances. Further pressure from Bushey saw Eva make some good clearances, before much to the delight of Dave and the supporting fans Sammy passed a lovely ball to Sian who drilled the ball home to make it 1-0.

Bushey hit back with a corner and in the melee a fierce shot was beautifully headed off the line by Natalie who really kept her cool and stopped a certain goal in one of the moments of the match.

Second Half

A limited ration of Jaffa cakes following the Easter excesses saw Hitchin start the second half strongly with Sarah making some tremendous runs through the middle and hitting some great shots on target. Alex really motored on the wing and played some really lovely passes with Sian.

Sammy again made some darting runs on the left and delivered an inch perfect pass for Sian to slot home, Hitchin 2 Bushey 0.

Minutes afterwards Sammy danced her way round the defence and floated a beautiful strike into the top right of three goal, 3-0 to Hitchin.

More pressure from Hitchin with Sarah and Stephanie really dominating mid field saw a great cross from Sammy and a goal mouth muddle leading to Sian scoring a great hat trick. 4-0 Hitchin. Bushey kept fighting and Eva made some great saves to deny them, Monica continued to make some great tackles and clear the ball well and Jo was rock solid on the left making several telling tackles. The whole team played really well in the second half.

Next week we play Cambridge away then Enfield away so 2 really big matches and a full squad will be needed. Hitchin have already beaten Cambridge away and drawn with Enfield, the ability is there the desire to win must also be there, they have nothing to fear and can level a few old scores.
