Match Summary

The first time Hitchin have played at the famous Top field on a Tuesday night and the big pitch was very demanding of the players as they had to cover much more ground than usual. The late kick off and warm temperatures not forgetting having to face a rampant Luton side made this a really tough game. With only 12 players Hitchin did not have the luxury of resting tired legs and a very strong Luton squad arrived in numbers.

Straight from the kick off Louise made a good intercept but the Luton defence who did not let anything pass them quickly snuffed out the threat. Using the width of the pitch and having a very fast forward line saw Luton really dominate the first half despite the brave efforts of Lauren, Jo, Natalie, Monica and Roisin. After only 10 minutes Luton had scored despite Evaís best efforts and they quickly scored again to kill off the game as a competitive match. Sammy ran hard to try and get a goal back but despite good support from Louise, Stephanie and Sarah tired legs were not enough against a highly competent Luton team. Alex caused problems with her cheetah like pace and chased the ball down well on several occasions. Eva got a goal keeping work out and made several really brave saves.

The second half was much better and Hitchin did push forward through Louise who never stopped trying but Luton hit a killer goal in the dying seconds of the match to really put out any smouldering chances of Hitchin pulling off the greatest come back since Liverpool won the European cup in 2005. Overall a really hard mid week game but the team is back to full strength for itís next 2 matches against Northwood followed by the final game of the season against Leigh rockets.

The team should not be too disappointed they have worked really hard all season and have pulled off some truly great results. They are still developing and even against strong sides like Luton they continually demonstrate their abilities and have the potential to be an outstanding side.
