Hitchin Belles U14 Sapphires is a new team for 2024/25 season that was set up with the aim of offering a team of girls the opportunity to play against boys / mixed teams in the Sunday Royston Crow League.

It was setup by U10 Blues Manager, Phil Dawson and former U15 Blues Coach, Ben Cox, in response to a number of players, including their own daughters, suggesting playing against boys / mixed teams but with just girls would be an interesting challenge. Phil & Ben aim to provide a supportive and fun environment for this new team to come together and learn how to improve as players as they compete against boys / mixed teams each week.

The purpose is to provide talented players with an all girls team to go and challenge themselves against a different style of football than the one they might be used to in the Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership; which the majority of players will still enjoy being a part of for the Saturday team.

The response to this venture far exceeded what Phil & Ben imagined and the standard of player who has come forwarded was exceptional with 4 Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire County players on the team and the majority of the squad part of either the Stevenage or Bedford pathways.

Playing competitive matches twice a week, or more if the players are representing their school some weeks, will potentially be demanding so Phil & Ben decided to fill all 18 registration spaces for the 2024 / 25 both to cover weeks when the players may not be available but also to give as many players an opportunity to play as possible.

The team are excited for the 2024/25 and what this talented group of players will be able to achieve and how they will progress their own football.
