Hitchin Belles @ Historic Top Field

Lco 7322

Our Women’s team had the opportunity to play at Hitchin Town’s historic Top Field ground this weekend, for their big Adobe Women’s FA Cup clash with the mighty Leyton Orient.

The Belles family came out in numbers! We brought an additional 403 people the ground. Thank you for your support!

Whilst it wasn’t the result we wanted, it was a heart-fuelled performance from the team who never gave up and did us proud. An absolutely massive day for us and for Women’s sport in the town.

Thanks again to Hitchin Town FC for hosting, and good luck to Leyton Orient Football Club in the next round.

Get down to Top Field and support the team next time we’re there.

Thank you to @lcook.sportsphotography for being pitchside and taking these great photos.

Double Winners!

Whatsapp image 2025 05 13 at 22.08.01

It’s been a fantastic season for our women, achieving the double – winning the Beds & Herts Premier division and the League Cup! 🙌🏆🏆

The team were solid in defence and clinical in attack, having the best records in both in the league this season, which has clearly helped the team to secure two trophies. With a mix of experienced players and Belles youth, the whole squad played their part across the season.

After a bumpy start in September, the team went on an unbeaten run in the league from October until April. Facing tough opposition along the way, they never gave up and got their rewards at the end of the season.

Performances of the season have to be the Semi-Final win against Oaklands, which saw clinical finishes and a dominating display to win 9-0. Alongside this, our 6-0 win in our final league game against Ware, where everything went right, and the players stepped up under pressure. This was the catalyst in securing the league and setting us up for a cup final against Ware. A tough battling game from both sides on a hot day in May, where both teams had opportunities, saw us come out as 2-1 winners and secure a league and cup double.

Some fantastic football, more Belles youth players stepping up into senior football, and a determined attitude from all showed in a successful season on the pitch. We look forward to a well-deserved break and hope to keep the momentum going into the new season.

Managers Kelly and Nicolle said, “We are beyond proud of the team. They have exceeded expectations at the start of the season and grown in confidence across the months. Players stepped up, playing different positions and new roles, but every member of the squad played their part. The club have been fantastic with their support and development of players to help us achieve the double this season. We look forward to more success with this great club and players.”

Club Chair, Simon White, said, “What a team! A real credit to the club with the way they play football and carry themselves, true icons for our youth players to look up to. It’s also been an unreal job from the coaching team to go from a complete team rebuild at the end of last season, to winning the double just a year later!!” 🏆 🏆

The UK’s Largest All-Female Football Club!

20231125 110642

A phenomenal rise: Hitchin Belles FC becomes the UK’s largest all-female football club!

Hitchin Belles FC has officially cemented its place in history as the largest all-female football club in the United Kingdom! This incredible achievement is a testament to years of tireless work and the unwavering belief in the power of women’s and girls’ football.

Founded in 1999, the Belles started with a simple vision: to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for girls and women to play the beautiful game. From humble beginnings, the club has grown organically, defying expectations and breaking barriers. With over 620 registered players across teams ranging from Under 6s to adults, the speed and scale of success has been breathtaking.

What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is the philosophy that underpins us as a club. It’s not just about winning on the pitch; it’s about fostering a caring, family environment where every player, regardless of ability, feels valued and can thrive. We like to think that our commitment to the FA’s “Respect” campaign and our proactive approach to player wellbeing, including the introduction of female wellbeing ambassadors, truly sets us apart.

The journey to becoming the UK’s largest all-female club hasn’t been without its challenges. For years, the Belles navigated the logistical hurdles of finding pitches and competing for facility slots against established boys’ and men’s teams. However, a pivotal partnership with The Priory School in Hitchin, which became our dedicated home ground in 2020, has been instrumental in our explosive growth. This collaboration, along with grants for pitch improvements and a 3G all-weather training pitch, has created a hub where female football can truly flourish.

The rise of Hitchin Belles is a reflection of the surging interest in women’s football across the UK, undoubtedly fueled by the success of the Lionesses on the international stage. But the Belles aren’t just riding a wave; they’re actively creating one. By providing pathways for players from grassroots to adult football, by offering opportunities for coaching development, and by nurturing a genuine love for the game, they are shaping the future of female football, one player at a time.

This isn’t just a story about a football club; it’s a narrative of empowerment, community, and the transformative power of sport. Hitchin Belles FC stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when passion meets purpose. We hope our incredible journey will inspire everyone to continue supporting and celebrating women’s and girls’ football at every level.

Join the Belles! If you’re a girl or woman in the Hitchin area looking to get involved in football, there’s never been a better time to join the UK’s largest all-female club. Find out how you can become part of this incredible success story here.

Hitchin Belles FC Prioritises Player Wellbeing

21st Oct 2023 1

As one of the UK’s largest all-female grassroots football clubs, with over 500 registered players, Hitchin Belles FC is committed to the well-being of its athletes.

For the upcoming 2024-25 season, we’re introducing female wellbeing ambassadors to every training session.

These ambassadors will work closely with players and parents in our 30+ teams, building relationships and offering support. They’ll provide guidance on topics like periods, nutrition, mental resilience, injury prevention, and more, signposting athletes to specialist practitioners, agencies or resources where needed. Additionally, they’ll assist coaches in providing pastoral care during training sessions.

This initiative reflects Hitchin Belles FC’s dedication to creating a positive and supportive environment for all our players.

Many thanks to Hitchin Digital and Raymond James for their support.

Evergreen tournament

20240831 125614

After coming so close as runners-up in 3 tournaments over the summer, the U10 Blues finally got a tournament at Evergreen on 31st August. We entered as a means of getting some football under our belts with a fun tournament but ended up winning the U10 Cup.

The squad of 9 players were delighted with Eabha top scoring with 8 goals, Zara and Belle two a piece and Ashie with one. There was some fantastic play all around from the Belles, but in particular, in the final against a strong St Albans South team who had narrowly beaten us 2-1 in the group game. Well done to the whole squad which included two fantastic up-and-coming players from the U10 Whites in Grace and Jessa.
